Our Story

Going back to the 1990s, we were two separate clinics –Otara Christian Health Centre, and Bairds Rd Family Health Centre. Dr Mark Arbuckle and Dr Harley Aish worked at the Otara Christian Health Centre, with two other Doctors, and Dr Murray Hing worked at Bairds Rd Family Health Centre.

In 1999, the two clinics combined

• one computer system
• one site – the 120 Bairds Rd building.
• one name – Bairds Rd Family & Christian Health Centre
• one phone number

 As we provided care to more patients, more nurses and GPs were required. The Bairds Rd building had some physical problems, such as frequent roof leaks, and noisy neighbours, as well as no room to expand. For several years, we looked for a new site. Eventually, a share of the 120 East Tamaki Rd builindg was purchased, and once the developer had completed their work to the outside, we built our current rooms.

With the change in address, a new name had to be found, as we were no longer on Bairds Rd, so we became Otara Family & Christian Health Centre.
